The antioxidant activity of the mycelium produced was determined using the 1,1-diphenylpicrylhydrazyl DPPH method. Light was supplied with light emitting diodes LEDs and laccase activity was determined on the 15th day of cultivation by ABTS oxidation. Factors such as pH and culture temperature influenced not only the growth, but also the production of laccase by the fungus.

A variability was also observed between the lineages for the affinity of laccase. Inversely, the biomass production of L. RBBR induced laccase activity regardless of brightness. The presence of the dye increased the biomass production of L. Lentinus crinitus was able to discolor the RBBR in all light conditions, however the different lineages responded differently to light. The ability to sequester DPPH free radicals from each lineage was affected differently by light. However, the strains U and U showed higher antioxidant activity when grown under illumination, particularly under white light.

This is the first report of the influence of light on laccase activity on the physiological regulation by light in this species and reveals complex interactions between light and metabolism of L.
